Giardiasis is an infection of the small intestine caused by the microscopic parasite Giardia duodenalis. This infection can range from asymptomatic carriage to severe diarrhea and malabsorption.
Symptoms of Giardiasis
Common symptoms of giardiasis include stomach cramps, bloating, nausea, and bouts of watery diarrhea. Symptoms typically develop after an incubation period of 1 to 14 days after ingesting the parasite.
