The Republican push to overturn Maricopa County's election results began as soon as Biden won the state by 10,457 votes. Biden beat Trump in Arizona by about 10,500 votes, the first time a Democratic presidential nominee had won there since Bill Clinton in 1996.
Responding to angry voters who echoed former President Donald J. Trump's false claims of a stolen election, Arizona's Republican-controlled state Senate launched an audit of the 2020 election results in Maricopa County, the state's most populous county.
The audit, which was widely criticized by election experts, has not found any evidence of widespread voter fraud. However, Republican lawmakers have continued to push for the results of the election to be overturned.
In the 2020 election, 3,385,294 votes were cast for president in Arizona. Donald Trump lost the state to Joe Biden by just over 10,000 votes.
